Online Dating at MatchedIn.Com #social  #relationship #love

San Francisco CA--Meet Sonia, Software Engineer in her early 30s, independent, outgoing, social, loves to cook and enjoys baseball. She is looking for a partner to share her life with, to travel the world, must be into baseball, at least 5’9, with at least a Masters degree. As this profile goes online, she puts a picture of herself and immediately begins to get invitations from various men who are interested in connecting with her. 

Now all she has to do is go through close to 200 -300 profiles, read each description, view their pictures and select the ones that she likes. Not bad so far, after narrowing down to ten profiles, she sends off emails asking them various questions to which she gets only two responses. 

Turns out that if a member does not pay the registration fee, they cannot communicate online. 
So from the two that she connects, she sets up a meeting at a coffee shop for their first meeting. Before meeting him, she notifies her family about the location of her meeting to ensure her safety because nothing about this person could be verified. 

At the coffee shop entering is the person she was waiting for but he claimed to have been 6’1 yet he is about 5’6, his picture seems to have been almost 10 years younger. But Sonia is not a superficial person, she tells herself that there is more to liking someone than just looks, as the evening continues, she discovers discrepancies in their mutual interests and knows that he is not the one.

Disappointed, she learns from her experience and asks bachelor number two to send recent pictures and if possible standing next to a tree so she can better gauge his height. When they meet, the evening goes by and Sonia realizes that she has nothing in common with him. He is an introvert, seems more religious than her and has no interest in sports. With both dates failing, Sonia is back online looking again through the profiles but this time she is relaxing her requirements of an ideal partner, she can live with someone shorter than her initial height requirement, and he doesn’t need to like baseball, any sport would do. She begins going through another few hundred profiles and the process continues.

This process continues for months or years for so many with numerous dates, most not leading to anything, others end in disappointed and for a few ending up in marriage. But as you navigate through this process, time needed to find someone increases, so does frustration, cost, and eventually many people get exhausted of this approach and give up.

Despite the tedious process, the online dating world is getting overcrowded.  Most sites use a niche market to differentiate themselves - such as Christians only, Jews only, etc. Yet, the product continues to remain exactly the same, the same old classified approach in finding a potential match. With the product being the same, the user experience continues to be similar. With the online dating being a $2.1 billion dollar industry, various sites continue to use the old classified approach because they know it doesn’t work for a lot of people which means they will bring continuous business.

Now Sonia calls her common friend and asks more about Jay only to know that he is a decent guy, he is indeed 6’1, he loves the Giants and played college football. In fact the common friend also says that Jay would make a great match because he knows Sonia’s nature as well as Jay and believes that the two would definitely hit it off. Sonia now connect with Jay directly on MatchedIn and is sure that her first date with Jay will not be full of unpleasant surprises, and that he will be a safer bet as she already knows so much about him that she feels confident in meeting Jay.

I have not used this website, but the article would help me decide (IF I were to need this particular type of service) where to look for help.

As a web developer this makes perfect sense to me and in this arena, it appears that some folks really had their thinking caps on.
